I luv your blog, it's a real inspiration. Just a quick question on your process...when you do these quick sketches (from my experience no one ever stays too long in one position, especially kids), do you end up completing the drawing by picturing what was going on in your own mind? Or are these people holding still for quite some time? Please keep them coming they are great! Angie
Angie, It's true no one stays still for us to sketch them. Which is why it's incredibly important to catch the essence of the pose as quickly as possible i.e. the trajectory of a pose" post below. I try to capture a snapshot in my head of the moment, draw the trajectory down quick and then sketch it all down. I always tell people to use the models like a model sheet and as these people walk away I can still see their clothes or hat or props they may have with them and I draw it. There's is always a bit of impressionism going on in my sketches because I believe era of art we live in doing gesture sketching. Although its all done on the spot....Quick!
Man! I'm amazed at the accuracy and detail you're able to get on these quick drawings of passing people. Really impressive, I suppose practice has a lot to do with it.

Hi there! The skinny long-leggedy deer things are called gerenuk, and they are one of my favorite animals to sketch at the LA zoo.
Your drawings are fantastic and are always inspiring.
