Good Luck to all!

(Update)
To all Applicants outside of the U.S. We have had and currently DO have trainees from abroad. It all depends on the work visas and stuff like that. I would suggest all these questions go to DW recruiting.  Info is on the page.  thanks!

Do you know who will be heading up the program this year? Because if it's you, Dave Pimentel, I'm warning all my friends to STEER CLEAR!

At SVA, we've had a bunch of these flyers hanging all around the animation floor for about a month now.

I really want to apply for this.

Amazing! Thank you for posting this! I have 1 question however - "Graphic Novel Excerpts", what does the instruction mean by that exactly? Thank you!

Dave Pimentel said...

Team D- I think you may need to go through this program again... Hehe!
Kelvin- the "gravic novel" thing relates to comic books.

Can't wait to see how it all goes!

Hey David! I'd like to try my hand at applying for this too but are they accepting international applicants? :S

Good luck to everyone anyway :)

Only open to graduates, huh? Do they do this every year (like, say, next year, too)?

Pierre-
It may be a long shot! I think you should call DW recruiting and ask.

Thank you for posting this!
If you've got the time to answer, I was wondering if all applicants do the story test or is it only for those who pass the "portfolio phase"?

Dave Pimentel said...

Kelipipo-
Only applicants who pass the portfolio phase move on to take the story test.
If the portfolio doesn't pass the applicant will not do the test.

I hope this is clear- I don't want to mislead anyone.

Good luck!

Hello!I'd like to say you have great and awesone work on blog. I do have a concern about the program though. It asks for 10 -40 sketches of 2 or 3 original projects to put in the porfolio. Is there a format that applicants have to follow in presenting that section of work in the portfolio? for example 3 or 6 panels/sketches per page.
Id really appreciate your feedback on my question.

Mmolina and everybody!

"Sketches" equal story board panels. Don't let the numbers intimidate or control exactly what you should put in. My thought is put in thorough examples of story boarding so we can tell that you have a grasp of it. AND the amount should be no enough for us to gauge your ability. Hopefully you have at least what they are askjng for and more. Most students have films they're working on in school so that constitutes as original projects. You all need to show a beginning middle and end to the examples you show!
The number of gestures, character designs, and life drawings should be put in at your comfort level. But the boards you put in will matter most!

Again- they specify numbers for people who may not know what to pit in- but if you all want to design your portfolios differently make sure you follow my advice here. You must have story board examples that are complete ideas.

Good luck!

Thank you very much for your advice it really helped!

So it says that the submission deadline is April 4th. Does that mean that it has to be at the studio on that day? Or if I mailed it, that it had to be postmarked by that day?

Dave Pimentel said...

Melsartstuff-
It must be there on the day of- no postmarked packages.

G'luck!

Does DreamWorks hire people who never being to America, I have finished my 1 year post graduation diploma in animation, I want to show you my blog "sauravdon.blogspot.com" please tell me if this kind of work can be accepted in dreamworks. If I am not so good in animation, will they teach me to implement in their way? Let me know in which category I should to apply in DreamWorks?
