Matt J. I'll barge in and hijack Dave's blog to answer: they're a color called "bay", which is a reddish-brown with black mane and tail. I can see where you might think "white"(horsey trivia: NO one ever calls a white horse "white"--for some bizarre reason even the whitest horses are called "grey", officially). Since these are gesture drawings done with a japanese brush-cartridge pen the aim is to get the movement and form(and--no pun intended!--"spirit"). If Dave had had some watercolors or a wash, etc. they'd look colored. Anyweay, that's my 2 cents--Mr. Pimentel, feel free to smack me down if I'm wrong! ; )
